PET/PBT Impact Modifier (E-nBA-GMA)
Introduction to Materials
Material Overview
Qihao® Z08P is an ethylene terpolymer impact modifier, with its main component being an ethylene-n-butyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer (E-nBA-GMA). It is specially designed to improve the impact toughness of engineering plastics, particularly polyester materials, at room and low temperatures. The GMA reactive functional groups present on the product's side chains can react with the end groups of resins such as polyester, nylon, and polycarbonate, forming a strong interfacial bond between the elastomer phase and the matrix, providing both toughening and compatibility functions. The product has excellent processing fluidity and can significantly enhance the melt strength of PET. It complies with relevant US FDA regulations for food contact and is suitable for toughening and modification of various engineering plastics such as PBT, PET, PC/PBT alloys, PA, and PPS. It is widely used in automotive parts, electronics and electrical appliances, food packaging, cable materials, and other fields, and is compatible with conventional processing methods such as injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.

Compatibility and dispersion
Compatibility & Dispersion
This product is highly compatible with various engineering plastics such as polyester, polycarbonate, and nylon. It is recommended to use a twin-screw extruder with a length-to-diameter ratio of ≥32:1, which can uniformly disperse the elastomer phase to 0.1-1 μm, without adversely affecting the surface quality of the product. The product itself does not require pre-drying, but should be sealed after opening to prevent moisture absorption. It has excellent processing stability and can withstand a maximum temperature of 310°C. Avoid prolonged high-temperature exposure to prevent functional group deactivation or material degradation.
Methods Used
Directions for Use
1
Check the packaging and drying status of the matrix resin. Z08P does not require pre-drying; after opening, ensure there is no moisture absorption or clumping.
Check the packaging and drying condition of base resin. Z08P does not require pre-drying, confirm no moisture absorption or caking after opening.
2
Determine the initial addition ratio based on the type of matrix resin and target performance, with a recommended usage of 3%-25%.
Determine the initial dosage according to base resin type and target performance, recommended dosage is 3%-25%.
3
If main feeding is required, fully mix Z08P with the pre-dried and cooled base resin, avoiding direct contact with high-temperature resin to prevent sticking.
If using main feeding, premix Z08P thoroughly with pre-dried and cooled base resin to avoid adhesion caused by direct contact with high temperature resin.
4
Select the corresponding processing temperature range according to the type of base resin, with the maximum processing temperature not exceeding 310°C, and avoid prolonged high-temperature exposure.
Select corresponding processing temperature range according to base resin type, maximum processing temperature shall not exceed 310℃, avoid long-time residence at high temperature.
5
It is recommended to add Z08P in the middle section of the extruder using side feeding, and configure the twin-screw extruder with appropriate shear elements to ensure uniform dispersion.
Side feeding at middle section of extruder is recommended. Twin screw extruder should be equipped with appropriate shear elements to ensure uniform dispersion.
6
After confirming the product's mechanical properties and appearance quality through a small-scale trial, fine-tune the additive amount and processing parameters to achieve the best results.
Conduct preliminary trial to evaluate mechanical properties and surface appearance, then fine-tune dosage and processing parameters to achieve optimal performance.
Storage and Shelf Life
Storage & Shelf Life
The product is packaged in cartons with polyethylene liners or in bags, and should be stored in a dry, ventilated warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperatures. Unused portions of the product after opening should be resealed to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. Under normal storage conditions, the product has a shelf life of 24 months from the date of production.
